Punk

Punk rock genre developed in 1974-1976 in US, UK, and Australia. The music produced by punk bands can be characterized as a rejection of the sound of mainstream 70s rock. Punk musicians commonly played fast-paced and short songs, with hard-edged vocals and melodies, simple instrumentation, and mostly politicized lyrics.

In the end of 70s, groups like The Ramones, Television, Sex Pistols, The Clash, and The Damned were the first to establish a new musical movement. If you want to download punk music, you should start with these bands. Next years, punk rock started spreading around the world and became a great cultural phenomenon in the UK and beyond. The punk culture arose from the youth rebellion and was characterized by specific clothing style and anti-authoritarian ideology. Hits like Blitzkreig Bop and I Wanna Be Sedated by The Ramones, London Calling by The Clash, Anarchy in the UK by Sex Pistols, took over the punk scene and the hearts of young rioters.

A number of influential punk bands started their way in CBGB, a small bar in Manhattan. Among them were such monsters of punk-rock as Misfits, The Dead Boys, Patti Smith Group, Blondie, Television and The Ramones.

In the early 80s, punk influenced genres like hardcore and street punk emerged. Aggressive bands like The Dead Kennedys and The Exploited became dominant on the scene. Music, which came out of punk, also used a range of other variations, rising post-punk and alternative rock. At the end of 20 th century, punk rock turned to be mainstream and commercial, and such pop-punk bands as Green Day (American Idiot), Blink-182 (I Miss You), and The Offspring (Come Out and Play) gained popularity.
